About the crystal
This crystal, due to an easy growth procedure and relatively high value of secondorder
nonlinear coefficient, was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. However,
lithium iodate is hygroscopic, and its value of laser-induced bulk damage threshold is
rather low. These circumstances limit the applications of this material in modern laser
technology.
